Top 5 Indica Strains You Should Try in 2023

Best Indica Strains 2023

Check out our last blog post, Best Sativa Strain for 2023! We featured our favorite Sativas that we sell at Maine Cannabis Exchange. In addition, we note helpful information about strain lineage. If you’re curious about understanding the common misconceptions about Indica vs Sativa, we highly recommend you check out the beginning of our last article! https://www.mainecannabisexchange.com/blog-1/cwwlcmq659z0eff7qtyjpao644i505

In brief, the definition of Sativa vs. Indica can be an unreliable indicator of potential effects. Each individual may have a different outcome and experience with a cannabis varietal. Additionally, each strain has a unique cannabinoid and terpene profile that we have come to understand impacts potential effects.

With modern cannabis cultivation and breeding, hybridization is prevalent. More likely than not you will find a plethora of hybrids with an extensive parental lineage. Lots of modern cannabis has been extensively crossed. This means most strains contain a unique lineage of different Sativas and Indicas. This is why you’ll often hear the terms “Sativa or Indica dominant”. More frequently, you’ll come across strains that aren’t pure Indica or Sativa.

Breeders select strains for desirable effects, terpenes, ease of growing, yield, and other factors. Therefore the more challenging to-grow landraces that are pure Indica or Sativa, are harder to come by these days. That being said, even a strain with high Sativa lineage could provide effects you would associate with an Indica, and vice versa.

Finding what works best for your unique needs is usually discovered through informed experimentation. With so many choices available it can be an overwhelming task initially. Starting with small quantities of flower that you’re curious about is a great way to narrow down what does and doesn’t work for you. Once you’ve established a baseline, working with those genetic profiles when making future choices can help take out some of that guesswork!

The combined factors of quantity, potency, cannabinoid, and terpene profile should all be taken into consideration. In addition to those variables will be your tolerance at a given time as well as the setting. When en route to discovering your therapeutic window and what flower works best for you, writing notes can be a helpful aid! There are so many elements to consider that can alter the way cannabis affects you. Tuning into your own body and what provides the most relief with minimum discomfort is the greatest tool on this journey. Going slow and steady tends to be the most effective technique to mitigate the potential for adverse effects.

Many look to a 1:1 CBD: THC flower to help reduce unwanted psychoactive effects. When introducing cannabis, seeking maximum relief and minimum negative effects can be more difficult in a world of high THC-producing flower! One to one flower generally contains around 10% CBD and 10% THC, give or take. What if you’re not able to obtain a 1:1 flower or have a THC flower you enjoy but would like to control your dose more effectively? Purchasing organic high-grade hemp flower may be a good option. This allows you to create a blend of high CBD hemp and THC flower to reduce the amount of THC you’re smoking at once. The presence of CBD may be beneficial in mitigating some of the intensity of THC.

We’ve compiled a list of some of the best Indica strains we sell at Maine Cannabis Exchange! These are some of our staff and customer favorites. Included are some of our most potent Indica strains as well as milder choices. Whether you’re seeking a high THC strain for 2023 or a balanced, forgiving flower, we strive to offer a range. We hope you enjoy learning about our 5 top indica strains of 2023!

Blueberry Muffin grown by Maine Cannabis Exchange

Blueberry Muffin is by far one of the most popular strains we grow. This varietal is revered for its delicious and sweet aroma. The terpene profile tends to be shockingly accurate to the namesake! Sweet, creamy, and fruity notes make themselves pronounced by the first sniff and are translated well when smoked. This mellow Indica leaning hybrid is a cross of the popular Blueberry and PPD. This strain has been a hit with staff and customers alike due to its flavor and often relaxed and full-bodied effects. Blueberry Muffin tends not to deliver as intense couch-locking or sedative effects as others we offer. These traits have made it a favorite for a blissful day-ender. Some report body numbing and gentle cerebral effects that lend to a cozy evening.

Black Domina grown by High Tide Organics

Black Domina is a powerhouse strain comprised of old-school lineage. The powerful, heavy-hitting effects are ideal for most folks looking for sedative and potent body effects. Black Domina is a cross of the notorious heavy Indica strains Northern Lights, Ortega, Hashplant, and the landrace Afghani. The cross-breeding of these classics makes Black Domina 95% Indica in lineage. This varietal is associated with a peppery, hashy terpene profile. Bred by Sensi Seeds, this is an excellent choice for folks longing for effects reminiscent of the classic Indica genetics of the past. This varietal is one of the strongest Indica strains we offer currently.

Super Petrol grown by Maine Cannabis Exchange

For our GMO lovers, Super Petrol is your gal! A Mosca Seeds strain comprised of GMO x (GMO x Rocket Fuel). This varietal touts the pungent, gassy, and fuel-like terpene profile that one would expect from GMO lineage. Notes of earth and skunk are also predominant. One can generally expect more intensity from this cultivar, Super Petrol is one of our strongest Indica strains of 2023. Many find this 70/30 Indica could be sleep-promoting and appetite-stimulating. Super Petrol would be an excellent choice for those seeking high-THC Indica strains.

Blue Cookies grown by High Tide Organics

Blue Cookies is a crowd-pleasing cross of cult favorites Blueberry and Girl Scout Cookies. Blueberry is a very well-known, stable strain bred by DJ Short in the ’70s or ’80s. The landrace genetics of pure Indica Afghani x pure Sativa Thai x Purple Thai has lent to its enduring popularity. The Girl Scout Cookie genetics tends to lend a cerebral boost. Some experience pronounced effects that could be attributed to the Sativa genetics in the mix. Most consider it a heavier Indica with more bodied effects. Some of our customers and staff have found it a helpful sleep aid that may also shift the perception of pain.

Pilot Light grown by Maine Cannabis Exchange

A balanced 60/40 Indica dominant bred by Strayfox Gardenz. Genetically Pilot Light is Tresdawg x (Afgooey Startrain x Unknown Parent). We grow both Tresdawg and Afgooey in our cultivation if you’re interested in trying these parents by themselves! Pilot Light is beloved by our staff and customers for tending towards mellow effects without being overly couch-locking. While this may not be true for all, Pilot Light generally provides a gentle, relaxing body. Potentially a good choice for an end-of-day but not completely sleep-inducing strain. Some find it a preferable option for imbuing their evening with a calm, bodied experience.
